To our Chipotle guests, I have spent a lot of time watching and listening over the past few days, and I’m compelled to take action towards a better tomorrow. The fears the Black community face daily are real and have gone unaddressed for too long. It is painfully clear to me that we have work to do as Americans to ensure Black lives are valued and we are standing in solidarity with the Black community. The racial and social injustice is unacceptable and we want to do our part to create an equal society. With that said, I still believe America stands for hope and opportunity and I see lots of brave people finding ways to create positive change. We ask that you join us in our effort to do the same. Today, Chipotle is pledging $1,000,000 in support of organizations advocating against systemic racism, beginning with a commitment of $500,000 to the National Urban League, an organization with a deep history and proven track record for supporting Black communities with comprehensive action and impactful plans that drive reform and accountability across the country. We will also be leveraging the Chipotle app and Chipotle dot com as a donation platform to allow others to give back to Black and at risk communities. Using a new technology feature, guests will soon be able to round up their bill to the next highest dollar amount at checkout to donate to the National Urban League. As a company, we are committed to learning and listening to ensure we’re fostering an inclusive environment. Listening sessions are already taking place across our organization to better understand how we can evolve as a company and provide equal opportunities for all. In addition, we’ll be working with our employees to identify the organizations to spotlight in our round up program throughout the year. There’s an inequity in the food system that we also acknowledge and will work to change. At Chipotle, our mission has always been to cultivate a better world. This isn’t just through real food, but through real, meaningful action. We need to do better and we encourage our community and fans to join us in our fight for equality.
